Creating my allergy-friendly skincare routine for sensitive skin with Three Ships!
Skincare is very important to me. Before all else, my daily routine starts and ends with taking care of my skin.
Growing up with eczema and allergies, there was always a focus on my skin and what I was using on it. Throw acne on top of that and my skincare regimen started to sound like a science experiment. I tried multiple topical skincare products, high-end ones, affordable drugstore finds, and supplements; I felt like it would help one issue, but worsen another, or my skin would look better, but I would psychically feel sick.
Wanting to rid my skincare routine of strong chemicals and harsh medications, I started my search for new products. Once I started changing things up, my skin freaked out a bit, so it was a lot of trial and error. It wasn’t until I found Three Ships Beauty that my skincare regimen started to fall into place.
I was drawn in by their mission statement and their environmental efforts but was hooked when I discovered the Ingredient Glossary. I had never seen a skincare company so transparent about what is in each product they sell. It helped take out the extensive research I normally have to undergo when deciding if I can use a new product. All of Three Ships’ ingredients are 100% natural and vegan-friendly, gluten-free, cruelty-free, and sustainably sourced. With that reassurance in mind, all that was left was to find the products that were just right for my skin!
I started by taking the Skin Quiz. It is the perfect place to start when you are not sure what you should be looking for. From there, I used the Ingredient Glossary to see if the results I got would be safe for my allergies. Having to avoid any ingredients that are made from my triggering allergens, I couldn’t use everything my Skin Quiz recommended, but the results helped me figure out what type of products I needed to consider.
Below is the current skincare routine I follow. If you are interested in any of the products I mention or find your perfect skincare lineup through the Three Ships Skin Quiz, don’t forget to use my promo code to get 20% off your order: AMACGREGOR20
My Allergy-Friendly Skincare Routine for Sensitive Skin
Cleanser (Morning and Night)
This is always the toughest find for my routine because my skin is so sensitive, that I need something gentle enough to not irritate my skin while still keeping my acne from breaking out. It is a balancing act that Three Ships mastered with the Purify Aloe + Amino Acid Cleanser. This cleanser is super gentle on my skin and leaves it feeling clean. The formula is extra hydrating, which is perfect for my dry eczema-prone skin. The amino acids replenish my natural moisture barrier while the aloe vera soothes my skin.
Toner (Morning and Night)
This is a new addition to my skincare routine. I was unfamiliar with toner until the most recent years. Adding a toner after cleansing is known to shrink pores, minimize acne, and balance the pH levels without leaving your skin feeling tight or parched, a feeling I am very familiar with when my eczema outbreaks occur.
In the morning, I use the Awake Rose Hydrosol Toner. Rose hydrosol helps reduce the appearance of fine lines and hyperpigmentation. At night, I use the Calm Lavender Hydrosol Toner, which penetrates deeply, evening out skin tone. I split them like this due to how my skin is throughout the day. The rose hydrosol toner is for dry and normal skin, which best represents my skin in the morning. However, the lavender hydrosol toner is targeted for oily skin, which is exactly how my skin feels at night, especially my forehead.
Oil Serum (Night)
As I am getting older (hello to my 30s), wrinkles and fine lines are something I am paying more attention to lately. Three Ships’ Glow Serum was one of my Skin Quiz results. It contains Jojoba oil, which is a lightweight botanical extract whose chemical structure is nearly identical to your skin’s natural sebum. That means it absorbs quickly, minimizes the appearance of pores, and reduces excess oil. It is super hydrating thanks to Vitamin E and camellia oil, which is something my skin needs in the winter.
During those cold and dry months, I up my usage, applying in the morning and at night. Once we start getting the warm and humid weather here in New Jersey, I switch back to only using the serum at night and/or after a shower. Everyone’s skin is different, so you may find better results using it twice a day like Three Ships recommends.
Moisturizers (Morning and Night)
Three Ships’ Day and Night Creams are probably my favorite skincare product yet! These moisturizers are light yet effective and affordable! All you need is one pump of the Radiance Grape Stem Cell + Squalane Day Cream in the morning and one pump of the Dream Bio-Retinol + Shorea Butter Night Cream at night and it will do the trick. I feel like hydration is key and restoring your skin's balance is so important, which is why I love this day/night combo so much.
Clay Mask (Weekly)
If you’re suffering from adult acne, or just have those monthly flare-ups, Three Ships’ Clay Masks will help prevent mild forms of acne, such as pimples and blackheads. I use the Detox Green Tea Antioxidant Clay Mask at least once or twice a week. Not only does it help keep my acne at bay, but it is also a nice way to unplug for 10 minutes and relax while the mask does its thing.
